You can’t out-Amazon Amazon - that’s the story Walmart owned over 20 years ago.
Some say they’re trying - free shipping, 2-day delivery, 1-day delivery, same day delivery... but that’s only playing at the extremes.
The heart of Walmart’s race to the bottom that kills local, independent, stand-alone stores and grocers of all kinds is still that Walmart is really good at being Walmart.
They could pay employees more - but then they’d have to offer a couple thousand sku’s like CostCo and not the tens-of-thousands they do carry.
They’d have to stop being Walmart, and as long as they can do that, Walmart will win at being Walmart.
Even as local sentiment self-righteously shifts away from big-box to independent and locally sourced and niche and more expensive retail.
Walmart will still survive being Walmart.
So, what about you?
You can’t be all things to all people and expect to win over everyone (even the apostle Paul know being all to all only wins some - check it out all you praying people).
Figure out who you are and become better at being you.
This is your future... that and finding a message that connects with your customer - not any customer, just your customer.
