When caught off-guard...
...or when someone's willing to listen to more than your 30 second elevator pitch... ...or when your asked a question of comparison - how are you different from so-and-so? And you find yourself off-script - in the land of "Do I really know what I'm talking about?" - what do you say? You'll probably slip into what you really think... your ad lib... but that's not as important as who becomes the subject of what you say. Do you turn inward - to talk about yourself or the organization - or do you turn toward those you serve - your customers, audience, supporters or end-users? This is the great "tell" - and often the weakest link in your communications and messaging. Going off-script is a great way to show us what's missing in our message. Try it - and see where you go.
