It sounds cool - intuition - a ‘trust your gut’ bravery and belief about not just what’s best for yourself but usually what you make others live with as well.
But there’s nothing more destructive to a team - creativity and study and growth - than a boss choosing what’s best according to their ‘intuition’ - their gut. Add to that this little philosophical tidbit: Few - as in so few it’s the exception that proves the rule - are able to see the world through the market’s eyes, your customers’ lives or your supporters’ passions and call it intuition. Intuition is really just another word for selfishness - because once we’ve made a decision based on our ‘gut’ we will defend it no matter what reality turns out to be (and usually console ourselves with our daring, risk-taking bravery of our intuition). It’s another way of never being wrong. Don’t trust your intuition. Trust testing and trial and error and trust your team - the people hired to create - and let creativity drive decisions, not your gut. Comments are closed.
