Vertical stories hurt us.
The horizontal story we can tell ourselves about life and money and success tell us the journey is the destination. Everyone of us lives on this plane and the only thing that holds us back from access to an audience or money or success is us.
So are horizontal stories any better?
Yes, yes they are.
We choose, we try, we have access today in ways that the vertical storytellers hate - and they fight us, telling us ‘No’ while demonizing the horizontal stories (keeping us separate, offline, is their way to control us so they retain their power).
In the new story - the horizontal story - we don’t ask permission. We embrace sorry rather than safe.
And if we try and fail - that’s on us... it’s our fault, and there’s no one else to blame. (This alone makes many of us prefer the vertical story of life and work and love and money.)
Embracing this in our marketing and businesses and nonprofit work will help us in unbelievably important ways - showing us the psychographic in play for both vertical and horizontal storytellers.
